I wrote the first draft for Dread House in about three weeks. I wrote obsessively. Constantly. I started with one scene in mind, and wrote the novel with the sole aim of getting to that scene. I initially intended to write Dread House as a 10,000 word entry into a Kindle Vella competition, but I soon realized I had a full length novel on my hands.
Dread House was my fourth attempt at writing a book (the first attempt occurred when I was 8 years old), and it was the first book I actually finished.
